Personal Bio

I became interested in fonts in the early ’80’s when I found out I could change the fonts used by my dot matrix printer. I started collecting font books, and was hooked. I got my first Mac in 1993, followed shortly by my first collection of fonts. I now have around 8,000 fonts, all licensed. When I retired after 32 years as an engineer for an aerospace company in 1999, I started my own website Bowfin Printworks, and began participating in font newsgroups comp.fonts and alt.binaries.fonts, specializing in font identification. I created my first Font ID Guide (Bauhaus-style fonts) in mid-2000 with samples from my own collection and newsgroup members, and later that year began the Script Font ID Guide. The Guide has over 3,100 script styles shown as of May 2005.
I joined the Type Identification Board at Typophile in July 2003, and found an ideal forum for my particular obsession.
